The Rock Rocks in “The
Scorpion King”
Dwayne Johnson shows his
talent as a leading man in the Hollywood ring.
Hollywood Exclusive attended the premiere of “The
Scorpion King” where the new action hero Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. The
Rock proves that real men wear ruffles. He is courteous,
considerate, polite and has a big smile, happy that his dreams are
coming true, or is it his destiny (?) to take another step into
super stardom. The WWF champion, the most electrifying man in sports
entertainment is about to become the most electrifying action hero
on the big screen.
The Rock’s talent as a performer in the
WWF ring were a big plus in this incredibly choreographed adventure
filled with phenomenal stunts and amazing special effects. “The
Scorpion King” is a spinoff from “The Mummy”, but you don’t have to
endure all those extra special effects, this time you get real
action. More than just live-action, this action-adventure is a feast
for the eyes, ears and senses, it has everything including action,
romance, comedy, fantasy, drama and enough sword fights to keep you
on the edge of your seat. The compelling story and plot are filled
with funny characters, humorous moments and intense battle scenes.
The Hollywood buzz is that The Rock is stepping into Arnold
Swarzenegger’s shoes, costumes and movie roles.
The 29 year old 6 foot five inch 275 pounds of
muscle man was a struggling ex-semi-pro football player just five
years ago. A lot has changed in just a few short years after joining
the World Wrestling Federation where he rang up millions of fans.
His charisma in the ring is what led to his “discovery” for the
movie role in “The Scorpion King”. He is perfectly cast in this
exotic adventure, he commands the screen with his perfect physique,
handsome square jawed face, too perfect teeth and attitude of
playful victory.
Inspired by the legendary Egyptian warrior,
"The Scorpion King" is set 5000 years ago in the city of Gomorrah,
where an evil ruler (Steven Brand) is determined to lay waste to all
the nomadic peoples of the desert. The few remaining tribes, never
natural allies, must unite or perish. Knowing their enemy relies on
the visions of a sorcerer, they hire a skilled assassin, Mathayus
(The Rock), to eliminate the visionary. Once Mathayus discovers that
the visionary is a beautiful woman (Kelly Hu), he takes her deep
into the desert badlands instead of eliminating her. Mathayus knows
that the ruler's henchman will stop at nothing to rescue her.
Seriously wounded in the ensuing battle, he must find strength for
one last final confrontation in Gomorrah. The beautiful Kelly Hu is
the Sorceress Cassandra, the kidnapped heroine that is played smart,
cunning, and barely dressed. The Sorceress receives visions that
guide Mathayus to his victories. The characters of Arpid and Philos
add comedy to the action, and good support for
Mathayus.
Opening in theaters on April 19, Universal
Pictures' "The Scorpion King" stars WWF sensation The Rock, who
reprises the role he created in "The Mummy Returns" in a spin-off of
the studio's highly successful Mummy series. Co-starring Michael
Clarke Duncan, Steven Brand and Kelly Hu, the film was written by
Stephen Sommers, Will Osborne and David Hayter, from a story by
Sommers and Jonathan Hales. Sommers, Sean Daniel, James Jacks and
Kevin Misher are the producers with Vince McMahon serving as
executive producer. |
